The Energy Co-op celebrates Earth Day

By Scott Whittemore 4/26/2019

Spring weather is finally here, which means that The Energy Co-op’s event season is back in full swing. At The Energy Co-op, we have been leading the energy evolution since 1979. Educating the community about the benefits of renewable electricity (and the benefits of switching to ours) and energy more broadly is a part of our mission that we take seriously. We’ve been able to do some really fun things so far, and we’re just getting started. From playing Energy Jeopardy with families at the Upper Merion Township Earth Day Festival to talking renewable electricity with state representatives and other energy leaders at PennEnvironment’s 100% Renewable Energy Expo, we’ve been educating the southeastern Pennsylvania area almost every weekend and we’re having a blast doing it.

Our commitment to expanding energy literacy in Pennsylvania is realized in many ways. Whether through interactive presentations to students at universities, working with area schools to expand energy education, or good old-fashioned tabling outreach, you can usually see one (or several) of our staff answering questions about and discussing renewable energy with anyone and everyone.

We have a lot of exciting community engagement opportunities coming up in the next couple of weeks, so be sure to stop by and see us. We love seeing our members (and future members) when we’re out of our office! On Saturday, April 27th at 12pm, we will be at Hunting Park talking about energy with families. If you live in the suburbs and can’t make it that day, at 10am we will be at Elmwood Park Zoo, partying for the planet! On May 4th, at 10am, we will be exhibiting at the Franklin Institute’s Science Carnival on the Parkway. This will be a great event for the whole family with food, fun, and science, so be sure to stop by our table, play Energy Jeopardy, and meet our staff!

Our education and outreach programs bring knowledgeable energy professionals into classrooms, churches, and community centers to encourage students to pursue careers in energy and to help everyone understand energy better. If you would like to get involved or would like us to come out and talk about renewable energy to your community organization, classroom, or anything in-between, please give us a call at 215.413.2122 or email info@theenergy.coop. We’re always excited for the opportunity to share our passion for sustainable energy choices.
