Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)
Switch to sustainable, more environment-friendly Renewable Natural Gas today.
Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) is biogas produced and recovered at organic waste facilities like landfills and wastewater treatment plants. RNG can be used for heating and cooking just like conventional natural gas, but without the environmental damage caused by drilling and fracking. So, it’s a sustainable resource and more friendly to the environment. RNG is mostly methane, which is estimated to be as much as 80 times more potent of a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. Capturing and using RNG as a fuel reduces methane leakage into the atmosphere from landfills and other waste treatment facilities.

Reliability
When you enroll in The Energy Co-op’s RNG program, your utility will continue to deliver gas to your home or business and bill you for it, so there’s no interruption to your gas service. And you know you’re getting your natural gas from a supplier that cares about you and the environment.
HOW IT WORKS
Renewable natural gas is collected from waste treatment facilities, processed in various stages for use, and distributed. If you purchase RNG from The Energy Co-op, you know you’re getting natural gas supply backed by 100% landfill gas RECs. The below graphic from the EPA explains how RNG is collected, processed, and used. Take a look and visit the EPA website to learn more.
