When did you start and what do you do at The Energy Co-op?
I started with The Energy Co-op in December 2024 as the Membership Coordinator. I work with the Membership Manager to conduct communications and engagement work and provide direct member support to current and prospective members interested in taking the next step in their renewable energy journey.
Could you share more about your journey and your background that lead you here?
I have a degree in Environmental Studies and have long been passionate about how people and the broader environment interact with one another. As an undergraduate at Bryn Mawr College, I did research in the cooperative economy and co-authored a paper about expanding how we conceive the value of alternative forms of economic exchange. I went on to work in member services for a community-supported fishery, connecting Philadelphians of all backgrounds to sustainable, local seafood. These experiences cemented my interest in working for a values-oriented organization focused on sustainability, accessibility, and environmental justice. The Energy Co-op shares these values and extends them into a sphere I have long been interested in, and I’m excited to become more knowledgeable about renewable energy.
What have you enjoyed about the work you have done so far?
So far, I have most enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm my coworkers have for the Energy Co-op’s mission and learning from their expertise.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that we don’t already know.
Some weekends you can find me at the farmers’ market working for a local farmer! I know lots about vegetables because my undergraduate concentration was in food studies and botany.
What do you like (or dislike!) the most about living in/around Philly?
After living in the city for 7 months, I can confidently say I appreciate Philadelphia’s walkability and accessibility by public transit, even if it’s usually running late (for context, I grew up in the suburbs). I also really appreciate Philadelphia’s grassroots community mentality, which I have found through book clubs, running clubs, etc.
What song has been your JAM recently?
Confession: I don’t listen to a lot of music, but when I do, I usually play Classic Rock or Hozier.
What are your goals for your first year at The Energy Co-op?
My goals for my first year are to learn as much about the energy grid and renewable energy in Pennsylvania as I can, collaborate with and learn from my brilliant coworkers, connect with members and The Energy Co-op’s partners, spearhead new projects to drive membership growth, and grow renewable energy demand in PA! This will surely take more than a year, and I am excited to get started.
