About Us
The Energy
Cooperative's mission is:
To provide energy cost savings, education and advocacy on behalf of our
members.
To promote the efficient use of energy and the use of
renewable energy.
To support cooperative concepts and participate in the cooperative movement.
Founded in 1979 by the Mt. Airy-based food co-op
Weaver's Way, The Energy Cooperative has saved our members money on
home
heating oil for over 30 years! We partner with many different oil suppliers to provide a
wide range of delivery, service, payment, and savings options to thousands of
members in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties.
In addition to providing savings, The Energy Cooperative continues to promote
and pioneer the use of eco-friendly biofuels, including bioheating oil.
Two
years after Pennsylvania's Electricity Generation Customer Choice and
Competition Act of 1996 gave electricity consumers the right to choose their
generation supplier, The Energy Cooperative became a licensed Electric
Generation Supplier (EGS). Currently, we provide a 100% renewable
electricity product, EcoChoice100, to residential and
commercial consumers in PECO's
territory. Our EGS license on file with the
Pennsylvania Public
Utility Commission is #A-110056.
And
in 2006, The Energy Cooperative began providing the Great Valley School District with
biodiesel to fuel their fleet of school buses -- the first school district in
the state to use biodiesel. Since then, our
Biodiesel Distribution program has expanded to serve 12 school districts
spanning multiple counties, as well as the City of
Philadelphia, PECO Energy, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Philadelphia Zoo,
among others.
